CHOOSING THE RIGHT THERAPIST
What Makes A Fit?
Multiple studies have shown that the relationship between client and therapist is the most important predictor of success. However, it is not always clear what makes a good fit.
In my opinion, there is such a thing as over-searching for your therapist. A therapist's gender, age, or appearance is not a reliable predictor of the success of your future work. Neither is past experience or current area of expertise, to be honest. Each of us is more dynamic than what we look like, what we do, and even how we are trained or what we think.
So should you just close your eyes and pick any old random person? Not at all. My recommendation would be to choose a person whose writing, audio, or video sounds familiar to you. Someone whose language is similar to yours. This will make having a conversation with them that much easier.
